Asphalt Roller Equipment Operator

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Asphalt Roller Operator to join our team at Martin Marietta. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating asphalt rollers to distribute, break down, compress, and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate roller in successive overlapping passes over surfaces and rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness.
  • Determine speed and direction of machine, based on knowledge of compressibility of material under changing temperatures.
  • Push hand roller and pound surfaces using hand tamp, or guide portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller.
  • Operate self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented, or other type of roller to compact earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces.
  • Operate other heavy equipment and other construction related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
  • Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Willing to work hours that are associated to the asphalt industry, including overtime, nights and weekends as needed.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years asphalt industry experience.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements & Conditions:

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noise.
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
