Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at Schmidt Construction, part of the Levy Group of Companies. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of heavy-duty off-road construction equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Repair and maintain asphalt paving equipment
  • Operate and inspect equipment to diagnose defects
  • Dismantle equipment to gain access to problem areas
  • Repair malfunctioning hydraulic components
  • Diagnose and correct electrical problems
  • Perform preventative maintenance
  • Make recommendations for equipment to be repaired by outside sources
  • Requisition parts and equipment
  • Utilize Oracle eAM to schedule maintenance and create work orders
  • Record keeping and reporting
  • Provide general housekeeping to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Create work orders and procure parts electronically
  • Perform computer diagnostics (Cat ET, Cummins Insite, Power Tech Tool)
Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of off-road heavy equipment
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, braking systems, electrical systems, drivelines, steering mechanisms, and suspensions
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, climb or crawl under or on top of equipment
  • Ability to manipulate components in hard to reach places with hands or tools
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned
  • Welding, cutting, and fabricating skills
  • Must have CDL class B license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Must have own tools
  • Ability to read and write
  • Ability to manipulate tools
  • Ability to understand manuals
