Falmouth, Massachusetts, United States West Falmouth Library Full time

Position Overview: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Context:

The West Falmouth Library (WFL) stands as an independent nonprofit entity, serving as a vital resource in the historic West Falmouth area since the mid-1870s. We are dedicated to being a central hub for literature and media, while also hosting educational, informational, and cultural events. Our commitment to evolving alongside our patrons and the community is essential as we adapt to shifting demands for information, media, and technology, as well as changing funding landscapes.

As a library, we define our mission as a community-centric institution, balancing our roles as both a library and a community gathering space. This duality informs our strategic initiatives and operational focus, allowing us to differentiate ourselves, broaden our audience, and enhance our impact within a culturally rich environment.

Role Expectations:

We are in search of a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who can guide us in our mission as a community-centric institution. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for libraries and education, along with experience in managing a small nonprofit organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Board to implement the Library's Strategic Plan.
  • Engage with the Board to assess and address community and library needs, guiding resource development and evaluating effectiveness.
  • Lead fundraising efforts to support our Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee the implementation of our new brand identity as a community organization.
  • Advise the Board on library matters, ensuring they are informed of relevant issues at local, state, and national levels.
  • Manage library operations and staff, including overseeing services, operations, and activities.
  • Promote the library within the community and establish partnerships.
  • Ensure the library's facilities are well-maintained and utilized effectively.
  • Develop a skilled library professional team, focusing on the unique strengths of current staff.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have executive experience in the nonprofit sector, preferably with a background in library operations. A strong commitment to community service, transparency, and integrity is essential. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required, along with prior supervisory experience. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are critical for building effective relationships with staff, patrons, and community stakeholders.

This position requires full-time engagement, with a focus on being present and active within the library to support staff and connect with the community. We are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

Compensation:

Compensation and benefits will be aligned with qualifications and experience.
