We are seeking a skilled Coding Specialist to join our team at UnitedHealth Group. As a Coding Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of medical records, while also identifying and resolving coding denials.
Key Responsibilities- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient services, adhering to official coding guidelines and client-specific coding guidelines.
- Identify and resolve coding denials, working closely with physicians and other stakeholders to ensure accurate documentation and coding.
- Provide documentation feedback to providers, querying physicians when necessary to ensure accurate and complete records.
- Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge, participating in coding department meetings and educational events to stay current on industry developments.
- Review and maintain records of charts coded, held, and/or missing, ensuring accurate and complete documentation.
- Professional coder certification with credentialing from AHIMA and/or AAPC (CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT, CPC-H/COC, CIC, CCS-P, CPC).
- 3+ years of recent inpatient medical coding experience, with a focus on ICD-10 and DRG coding.
- 2+ years of experience working with OCE, MUE, and NCCI classification and reimbursement structures.
- 1+ year of coding denials experience, with a focus on resolving complex coding issues.
- Intermediate level of experience with PC in a Windows environment, including MS Excel and EMR systems.
- Associate's degree in HIM or healthcare-related field of study.
- Experience with various encoder systems (eCAC, 3M, EPIC).
- Intermediate level of experience with Microsoft Excel.
