Job Summary

The Developmental Support Specialist reports to the Program Director and plays a pivotal role in providing direct care services to residents of our program. Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, this individual will assist residents in achieving their treatment goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the accomplishment of treatment plans for residents under the supervision of the Program Director.
  • Maintain accurate case recording documentation as per agency and contract guidelines.
  • Transport patients to medical appointments and laboratories for tests.
  • Conduct daily living skills sessions and socialization activity groups.
  • Participate in staff meetings, including weekly supervision meetings with the Program Director.
  • Attend job-related conferences and seminars, and participate in in-service trainings.
  • Carry out individual and group treatment programs for residents, encouraging participation in treatment activities.
  • Motivate residents to develop self-reliance in daily living.
  • Monitor patient physical condition and behavior, reporting significant changes to the Program Director.

Essential Qualifications

  • Six months prior experience in providing direct care to individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Meet the minimum age requirement of 21 pursuant to California Health & Safety Code Section 1562.
  • Effective communication skills in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to write comprehensive progress reports required for treatment documentation.
  • Complete RBT Training and certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Obtain DSP Year one certification within 6 months and Year 2 certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Hold CPR/First Aid/Water Safety Certifications within 7 days of employment.
  • Work effectively with diverse ethnic, religious, socio-economical, and professional groups.
  • Provide direct services to Developmentally Disabled residents with competence and understanding.
