Job Summary

The Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner plays a vital role in delivering exceptional patient care and experiences at Central Maine Healthcare. As a key member of the patient care team, this individual will be responsible for assessing health status, developing and executing interventions, and evaluating patient responses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patient health status and develop individualized care plans
  • Deliver direct and indirect patient care utilizing the PA/NP scope of practice
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to evaluate patient responses and adjust care plans as needed
  • Document all patient visits in the electronic medical record in a timely manner
  • Perform physical examinations on patients of all ages
  • Interpret subjective and objective data to formulate diagnoses
  • Formulate treatment plans within the provider's scope of practice
  • Implement therapeutic interventions when appropriate
  • Order and interpret diagnostic laboratory tests, EKGs, and radiological studies
  • Enter all orders for treatments and medications to be administered
  • Prescribe pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
  • Provide patient education and counseling regarding disease processes, test results, discharge planning, and preventative healthcare
  • Make appropriate referrals to other health professionals and community agencies
  • Participate in the quality improvement process to include review of records and treatment plans
Requirements
  • Unencumbered license to practice as PA or NP in the state of Maine
  • PA must be a graduate of an accredited physician assistant program; NCCPA certified
  • NP must be a graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • PA must complete 100 hours of CME every two (2) years and take the recertification exam every six (6) years
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS Certification required
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider ACLS preferred
  • Experience in Occupational Health preferred
  • DOT Medical Exam Certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Experience in emergency department or urgent care setting preferred
