Position Overview:
The Society for American Archaeology is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty role at the rank of Lecturer in Archaeological Studies. This position is designed for an individual with expertise in the archaeology of the Great Plains, Rocky Mountains, and/or Great Basin.
Research Focus:
The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in theoretically informed, problem-oriented, and hypothesis-driven research. A strong emphasis will be placed on the ability to mentor both graduate and undergraduate students in their research endeavors.
Teaching Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include instructing courses in regional archaeology, leading an archaeological field school, and teaching introductory and advanced courses aligned with the candidate's research specialization.
Key Duties:
- Conduct and oversee archaeological field school.
- Establish a distinguished research program characterized by high-quality scholarship.
- Advise and mentor students effectively.
- Deliver engaging instruction at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a terminal degree in an Anthropology-related field by the time of appointment. A specialization in the archaeology of the Great Plains, Rocky Mountains, and/or Great Basin is essential.
Essential Experience:
- Proven track record of theoretically informed, problem-oriented, and hypothesis-driven research.
- Demonstrated success in securing grants.
- Evidence of scholarly publications.
- A research program that includes opportunities for student involvement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience collaborating with Indigenous communities and public entities.
- Ability to engage with professionals across disciplines, including geologists, botanists, ecologists, and climate scientists.
- Professional experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM).
- Demonstrated teaching effectiveness.
- Capability to mentor students in archaeology.
