Join Our Team as a Senior Commercial Underwriting Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Commercial Underwriting Specialist to become a vital part of our organization. In this role, you will oversee a commercial underwriting portfolio valued between $8 million and $14 million. Your primary focus will be to achieve favorable outcomes through effective risk assessment, fostering robust relationships with agency representatives, and delivering high-quality products paired with exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and price new business opportunities and renewals by analyzing necessary coverages and determining risk acceptability.
    • Evaluate applications, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs), Experience Modifications, loss history, risk management reports, credit evaluations, and compliance with company standards.
    • Examine applications, endorsement requests, and renewals for requested limits and coverages.
  • Proactively seek new business and cultivate a pipeline for submissions.
  • Analyze and assess information and exposure for complex risks.
  • Accurately classify and price risks utilizing analytical pricing tools and resources.
  • Review change requests, approve, assign codes, and process within your underwriting authority.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to Associate Underwriters, Commercial Lines Underwriters, and other team members.
  • Engage in negotiations with agents regarding pricing and coverage options.
  • Deliver exemplary service to agency partners with prompt and professional responses.
  • Participate in agency visits to foster new business, address renewal accounts or concerns, and build successful relationships with agencies and producers.
  • Manage your territory effectively using portfolio management tools to meet production objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team as necessary to align on marketing strategies.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; a four-year college degree is preferred.
  • Professional designations such as AU, CPCU, CIC, or similar are advantageous.
Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting, demonstrating strong risk evaluation capabilities and a solid understanding of insurance contracts.
