In this position, you will oversee a sophisticated network of supervisory and technical operations related to water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utility systems. This role encompasses advanced administrative, technical, and supervisory responsibilities that support a network of utility lines, pumping stations, metering facilities, and automated control systems. Employees in this classification are tasked with planning, supervising, and providing technical support to operational and maintenance teams. You will guide subordinates in diagnosing issues and planning repair and installation tasks. Participation in the review of new or modified operations is essential, and independent judgment is exercised within established technical standards. The position reports to a division supervisor, unit supervisor, or designated representative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and assign tasks to maintenance crews for the replacement, repair, or enhancement of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems.
  • Supervise the implementation of safety measures for emergency and construction equipment.
  • Manage inventory of equipment, employee time records, and work scheduling, including early parts procurement, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Conduct site inspections prior to the commencement of work.
  • Analyze data related to sanitary sewer interruptions, pressurized water, and sewer main breaks, as well as installation and replacement activities.
  • Coordinate logistics in the field concerning labor, equipment, and material allocation.
  • Interpret engineering schematics or material specifications necessary for installation or procurement.
  • Estimate project costs based on job site assessments and present a comprehensive business case for your findings.
  • Recruit and train new personnel, prepare work schedules, conduct performance evaluations, manage overtime, and maintain employee time records.
  • Complete operational reports and maintain logs related to operations and maintenance.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of skilled utilities field or bench work experience, including supervisory or lead worker experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience is acceptable.
  • Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with a tanker endorsement.
  • Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class 3 Distribution System Operators License (DEP).
  • Must possess and maintain a Temporary Traffic Control Certification; failure to do so may result in demotion.
  • Willingness to work various schedules, including mandatory work periods during emergencies or disasters.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with services provided by the County and local community service agencies.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English, especially Spanish.
  • Flexibility to work varied schedules as needed.
