In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a sophisticated network of supervisory and technical water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utility systems. This position involves advanced administrative, technical, and supervisory tasks that support a network of utility lines, pumping stations, metering facilities, and automated control systems. You will plan, supervise, and provide technical assistance to operations and maintenance teams. You will guide subordinates in diagnosing and planning repair and installation tasks. Additionally, you will participate in the review of new or modified operations while exercising independent judgment within established technical standards. This position reports to a division supervisor, unit supervisor, or designated representative.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and assign tasks to maintenance crews for the replacement, repair, or enhancement of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems.
  • Supervise appropriate measures for emergency and construction equipment.
  • Manage inventory of asset equipment, employee time records, and work scheduling, including early parts pick-up, conducting disciplinary actions, and writing performance evaluations.
  • Conduct inspections of work sites prior to the commencement of tasks.
  • Analyze data related to sanitary sewer interruptions and overflows, pressurized water, sewer, and reclaimed main breaks, as well as installation, relocation, and replacement activities.
  • Coordinate field logistics concerning labor, equipment, and material allocation.
  • Interpret engineering schematics or material specification drawings necessary for installation or procurement.
  • Estimate project costs through job site assessments and present a comprehensive business case based on your findings.
  • Select and train new personnel, prepare work schedules, conduct performance evaluations, coordinate overtime, and maintain employee time records.
  • Complete work-related reports and/or maintain operation and maintenance logs.
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of skilled utilities field or bench work experience, including supervisory or lead worker experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience is acceptable.
  • Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with a tanker endorsement.
  • Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Department of Environmental Protection Class 3 Distribution System Operators License (DEP).
  • Must possess and maintain a Temporary Traffic Control Certification; failure to do so may result in demotion.
  • Willingness to work a variety of schedules, including mandatory work periods during special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of services provided by the County and other local community service agencies.
  • Proficiency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule when necessary.
