Lead Senior Accountant

Overview:
As a key member of the Fiscal Division within the Department of Senior Affairs, you will be responsible for overseeing the accounting operations related to grant management and financial compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
- Organize, prioritize, and supervise the work of the accounting staff.
- Maintain and analyze accounting records for various grants.
- Ensure grant expenditures adhere to Federal and State regulations.
- Provide financial and technical support to management, including assistance with grant transactions.
- Oversee the preparation of grant setups, reconciliations, billing, and drawdown requests.
- Perform advanced accounting tasks to support the department's objectives.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration, including a minimum of 15 credit hours in accounting.
- At least six years of accounting experience, with a focus on governmental accounting, grant management, or budget analysis.
- A minimum of three years in a supervisory role.

Preferred Credentials:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).

Additional Requirements:
- Valid New Mexico Driver's license or ability to obtain one by the date of hire.
- City Operator's Permit (COP) within six months of hire.

Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong understanding of supervision, training, and performance evaluation principles.
- Proficient in accounting principles, including municipal and grant accounting.
- Familiarity with financial management programs and governmental accounting practices.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare reports.

Essential Functions:
- Plan and direct the work of lower-level staff.
- Train and evaluate staff performance.
- Communicate accounting concepts clearly to both financial and non-financial personnel.
- Manage multiple projects with tight deadlines.
- Work independently and make sound decisions based on analysis.
