About the Role
The Criminal District Court Magistrate is a critical position within the Dallas County judicial system, responsible for conducting hearings and making findings of fact and conclusions of law in matters alleging violations of criminal law.
Key Responsibilities
- Preside over various matters requiring judicial action prior to disposition.
- Conduct hearings and trials, including jury trials, and hear evidence.
- Compel the production of relevant evidence, including books, papers, vouchers, documents, and other writings.
- Rule on the admissibility of evidence.
- Issue summons and attachments for the appearance of witnesses.
- Examine witnesses and swear witnesses for hearings and trials.
- Perform acts and take necessary measures for the efficient performance of duties as assigned by the Chief Magistrate.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate degree.
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
- 5 years of experience practicing law.
- Ability to act independently on own authority.
