Radiation Safety Specialist

Overview:

As a vital member of ASRC Industrial Services (AIS), the Radiation Safety Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of operations involving radiological materials. This position is essential for maintaining a secure working environment for all personnel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert technical assistance and oversight in radiation safety to support personnel in executing various tasks safely.
  • Utilize and manage standard radiation detection equipment, including large area gas-flow proportional detectors, dose rate meters, and electronic dosimeters.
  • Draft, enforce, and oversee Radiation Work Permits (RWPs) to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Conduct and document radiation surveys, including direct and smear surveys, to assess safety levels.
  • Assist in the packaging and shipping of diverse samples, ensuring adherence to safety regulations.
  • Select appropriate instrumentation tailored to specific project requirements.
  • Implement effective workplace controls, including posting, marking, and boundary management, to maintain safety standards.
  • Support waste management efforts, including characterization and disposal of radiological waste.
  • Provide coverage for various work scenarios, including those involving hazardous conditions and confined spaces.
  • Respond to emergencies involving radiological incidents, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Operate and analyze measurement data from instruments to verify compliance with established safety standards.
  • Conduct training sessions for site personnel, including radworker training and ongoing education for other Radiation Safety Specialists.
