Radiation Therapy Specialist Job Description

VCA Animal Hospitals is seeking a skilled Radiation Therapy Specialist to join our team. As a Radiation Therapy Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to our patients undergoing radiation therapy.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate activities in the Radiation Oncology Treatment Schedule in conjunction with the radiation oncologist.
  • Provide professional care to patients undergoing radiation therapy, prepare and maintain the radiation oncology space for all radiation therapy procedures, and assemble the type and quantity of material and special equipment needed for daily procedures and possible emergencies.
  • Responsible for positioning and CT simulation of radiation therapy patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of standard procedures related to radiation therapy, such as stereotactic treatment delivery, patient setup tolerances, and rationale.
  • Assist the radiation oncologist during advanced/critical therapy.
  • Able to process and clean all special equipment, including bolus, bite plates, treatment couch, face masks, vaclok bags, and bridges.
  • Demonstrate general knowledge of physics and radiation biology related to the rationale behind radiation therapy.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy Technician program in the United States or Canada.
  • Possess a proven track record of clinical excellence and therapy abilities.
  • The ability to follow directions with and without supervision.
  • The ability to learn and understand medical terminology and procedures.
  • The ability to admit or ask questions when a task is unclear.
  • The ability to show leadership towards veterinary techs, assistants, and volunteers.
  • The ability to adapt to the needs and styles of other technicians and doctors.
  • The ability to work with computers and other office equipment.
  • The ability to spell, alphabetize, and perform basic mathematics.
Physical Requirements:
  • Dependable attendance is required.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
  • This position requires the ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach constantly during a minimum 8-hour day.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people, and understand written directions.
