Employment Status: Non-exempt
Role Objective: This position is responsible for the repair and maintenance of electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial trucks and equipment through various tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze job orders and monitor equipment in operation to identify malfunctions and strategize repair procedures.
- Diagnose and rectify any identified issues stemming from the malfunction.
- Overhaul gas or diesel engines along with related systems, including pneumatic, hydraulic, and painting systems.
- Inspect safety features, including protective guards and loose bolts, making necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Lubricate moving components and operate repaired vehicles to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Design and fabricate specialized lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices based on blueprints or schematic drawings.
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks as required.
- Ensure that all completed work meets safety standards.
- Conduct maintenance checks and inspections as needed.
- Work in various settings including shop, yard, and job sites as required.
- Communicate repair status to the Operations Manager.
- Be available for on-call duties during peak operational periods.
- Procure parts and supplies necessary for repairs or servicing of Kolbe Striping assets.
- Execute additional duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Familiarity with the safe and effective use of hand and power tools.
- Understanding of the mechanics of diesel and gas engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems in construction equipment.
- Proficiency in welding techniques.
- Awareness of hazardous materials including oil, antifreeze, asphalt, cement, solvents, and battery acids.
- Capability to mentor apprentice mechanics in practical tasks.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities.
- Manual dexterity and coordination.
Educational Background:
- Completion of a two-year program at an accredited diesel or automotive college, or four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic in a construction-related field.
- CDL Class A or B License is advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of three years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic.
- At least one year of experience in a construction or construction-related environment or with large equipment.
Work Conditions:
- Outdoor work environment subject to various weather conditions including rain, snow, extreme temperatures, dust, and noise.
- Potential exposure to moving vehicles, machinery, exhaust, and fumes.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, bending, reaching, crawling, climbing, grasping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting.
- Regularly requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Occasional work at elevated heights may be necessary.
