Corrections Officer

Join Eaton County, MI as a Corrections Deputy and contribute to maintaining a safe and secure correctional facility. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the well-being and safety of inmates, as well as the security of the facility.
Key Responsibilities:- Process prisoners through the computerized booking system, including fingerprinting and photographing.
- Conduct regular floor counts and cell checks to ensure all inmates are accounted for and properly secured.
- Distribute meals to inmates and collect and count dishes and eating utensils.
- Release inmates from cells for visits with attorneys, bondsmen, ministers, or family members.
- Maintain a log of shift activity and prepare incident reports.
- Oversee inmate workers and participate in periodic searches of inmates and cells.
- Provide medications and other medical care, including CPR and emergency First Aid when required.
- Transport inmates to court, hospital, doctor, and other correctional facilities.
- Guard inmates in hospitals, courts, and other places outside the jail as required.
- Carry out Court Officer duties when assigned.
- Operate a car safely and communicate effectively over law enforcement radio channels.
- Load, unload, aim, and fire handguns and other agency firearms from various body positions.
- Manage interpersonal conflicts to maintain order.
- Perform searches of persons to detect potential weapons and contraband.
- Read and comprehend rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and the law to ensure appropriate behavior and perform enforcement activities.
- Subdue resisting subjects using hands and feet while employing defensive tactics maneuvers and approved non-lethal weapons.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent with college courses in Corrections preferred.
- Experience in the Corrections field at the County level is preferred.
- Valid Michigan Driver's License with a good driving record.
- No prior felony convictions.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to receive and maintain a valid CPL (Concealed Pistol License).
The Corrections Deputy will work in a fast-paced correctional facility environment, interacting with inmates and colleagues. The position requires the ability to work in a team environment, maintain confidentiality, and handle stressful situations.
