SUMMARY: This role is critical in ensuring that all products, packaging, and processes adhere to established quality and food safety standards within the beverage base blending and packaging sector. Reporting directly to the Quality & Food Safety Manager, the Quality Control Specialist will conduct quality audits by performing tests, gathering data, and analyzing results related to raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluate incoming ingredients, in-process, and finished products against specifications (e.g., Brix, acidity, flavor profile, color, pulp content, taste, oil content, ascorbic acid levels, and foreign materials).
  • Oversee production lines to confirm that quality and packaging integrity meet specified standards.
  • Verify the accuracy of product codes, labels, cases, cartons, packages, sleeves, seals, and shrink-wrap.
  • Monitor fill temperatures, weights, and heights of finished products.
  • Conduct thorough package quality inspections as necessary.
  • Collect samples for quality assessment.
  • Perform microbiological testing on incoming ingredients and finished products.
  • Complete all documentation related to quality inspections.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports and organize quality and production paperwork.
  • Place raw materials and finished products on hold when necessary.
  • Supervise the sorting of held products as required.
  • Monitor all quality checks executed by production staff.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and daily calibration of analytical equipment.
  • Demonstrate a foundational understanding of control charts for monitoring analytical instruments.
  • Prepare standard solutions and reagents as needed.
  • Adhere to proper chemical handling protocols.
  • Manage laboratory supply inventory and notify when reordering is needed.
  • Oversee sanitation activities to ensure compliance.
  • Analyze cleaning-in-place (CIP) and acid sanitizer solutions.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work areas to comply with GMP standards.
  • Assist blending operations as directed by supervisors or team leaders.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures, including safety and GMP.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in a food production environment is preferred.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required, with additional education or experience in citrus processing or laboratory work being advantageous.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding instructions in English.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including eight-hour and twelve-hour schedules, as dictated by business needs, including overtime as necessary.
  • Capability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks at a laboratory bench.
  • Ability to discern color changes during chemical testing.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Sound judgment with the capacity to make timely and informed decisions.
  • Ability to maintain a strategic perspective while delivering measurable results as a hands-on contributor.
