Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Welder to join our Structural Steel department at Shepard Steel. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for fabricating and assembling structural steel components using your knowledge of welding techniques.

Key Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and written instructions to perform tasks accurately.
  • Perform various types of welding, including FCAW, to assemble structural steel components.
  • De-bur and grind metal surfaces to achieve the required texture and finish.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or horizontal positions, using welding equipment and techniques.
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding and fabrication trade.
  • Analyze welding procedures, blueprints, and work orders to plan layout, assembly, and perform welding operations.
  • Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring they are free from loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Mark or tag material with proper job numbers, piece marks, and other identifying marks as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to use measuring tools, such as tape measures and squares.
  • Current and valid certification.
  • Ability to pass a welding test.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Physically capable of lifting, pushing, and pulling 70 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision and with other technicians.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and follow specified procedures.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and positive attitude.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to submit to a drug test and background check.
