Job OverviewPosition Summary
The Coordinator for Special Needs Ministry plays a pivotal role in leading our ministry dedicated to individuals with special needs, ranging from infancy to adulthood, within our vibrant and diverse community. This position is integral to our mission of spreading God's message by making disciples of all individuals. A genuine passion for serving those with special needs and their families in a Christ-centered manner is crucial. This role reports directly to the Grow Pastor.

Employment Classification
Part-time, non-exempt.

Work Schedule
Monday to Thursday
Approximately 10 to 12 hours per week during standard office hours, Monday to Thursday from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday
Approximately 8 to 10 hours per week during ministry events and worship services.

*The schedule may vary based on weekend responsibilities and ministry events occurring during evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a Christ-centered ministry that effectively nurtures the spiritual development of individuals with special needs.
  • Possess direct experience in coordinating care for individuals with various disabilities (preferably autism, developmental disabilities, or orthopedic impairments).
  • Recruit, schedule, support, develop, and assess volunteers for the special needs ministry.
  • Prepare educational materials and necessary supplies.
  • Create and maintain a safe, clean, and engaging environment conducive to the spiritual, emotional, and social growth of special needs individuals.
  • Manage church resources responsibly, including furniture, fixtures, equipment, and supplies utilized by the special needs ministry.
  • Attend weekly worship services and ministry team meetings as required.
  • Encourage a collaborative, healthy, and motivating relationship with staff, volunteers, and church families.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Alignment with The Cross Church's faith statement and mission to spread His message by making disciples of all individuals.
  • Commitment to biblical Christian principles and teachings, both professionally and personally.
  • Established practice of Bible study and prayer.
  • A personal calling and conviction towards special needs ministry.
  • Experience in special needs ministry within a Baptist church or a similar denomination.
  • Enthusiasm for the spiritual development of special needs children, adults, and their families.
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit, train, equip, supervise, and evaluate volunteers.
  • Capacity to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment regarding discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Compassionate, relational, self-motivated, organized, and dependable with a strong work ethic and a willingness to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • A prayerful, tithing, and actively participating member of The Cross Church.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English.
  • Good health sufficient to perform job duties effectively.
  • Successful completion of criminal, financial, and sexual misconduct background checks is required.
