Job Overview

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Animal Care Technician (ACT) plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and safety of animals in a quarantine setting. This position is dedicated to meeting the physical and emotional needs of animals, providing them with a nurturing environment while they await their permanent homes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of animal enclosures and surrounding areas.
  • Administer appropriate feeding schedules and diets as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Thoroughly clean and disinfect food and water containers.
  • Adhere to medical treatment protocols established by veterinarians.
  • Monitor and document any medical or behavioral issues observed in the animals.
  • Implement procedures to prevent cross-contamination among animals with infectious diseases.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment to support operational effectiveness.
  • Organize and stock shelter supplies and donations efficiently.
  • Facilitate the intake process for animals entering the shelter.
  • Keep accurate records of animal identification and locations.
  • Provide assistance during medical procedures, such as blood draws or imaging, when necessary.
  • Maintain tools and equipment required for job functions.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position primarily involves outdoor work, where conditions can vary with the weather. Noise levels are generally low but may fluctuate depending on the animals. Employees may encounter dust, hay, and other allergens. Handling a variety of animals, including excitable dogs, feral cats, and larger livestock, is a regular part of the job. Compliance with organizational policies and safety regulations is mandatory.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.


• Ability to stand for extended periods, up to 8 hours.


• Capability to lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds consistently.


• Physical ability to bend and kneel frequently.


• Good auditory skills, including the ability to detect changes in sound.


• Adequate agility to navigate through confined spaces.
