Job Summary

Alaqua Animal Refuge, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Technician to join our team. As a Veterinary Technician, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality veterinary care to animals in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in Surgical Procedures: Set up and assist in surgical procedures, ensuring a safe and efficient workflow.
  • Administer Medications and Vaccinations: Administer medications and vaccinations as ordered by the veterinarian, ensuring accurate and timely administration.
  • Monitor Anesthesia and Vital Signs: Monitor anesthesia and vital signs, assessing anesthetic risk and taking necessary actions to ensure patient safety.
  • Collect and Prepare Lab Samples: Collect and prepare lab samples, including urine, blood, and tissue samples, for analysis and diagnosis.
  • Assist with Admissions and Release: Assist with admissions and release of patients, including delivery of post-operative instructions and ensuring a smooth transition.
  • Maintain Cleanliness and Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of treatment, surgery, and exam rooms, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for patients and staff.
Requirements
  • Education: High school or equivalent education required.
  • Experience: Experience as a vet tech in a veterinary clinic environment is preferred. Experience in shelter medicine, animal handling and restraint, animal health and behavior assessments, and anesthesia and surgery is also preferred.
  • Skills: Skilled in intravenous injection experience and intubating animals for surgery. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle fluctuating priorities and projects, and work well independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions

The Veterinary Technician will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with occasional travel to area rescues, AAR locations, and community clinics. The position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to work varying schedules, including weekends and holidays.
