Job Overview

The Community Action Partnership of Dickinson, ND is seeking qualified individuals for the position of Bus Drivers within our Head Start initiative. This role involves operating a bus during the academic year, specifically from Monday to Thursday, covering morning, noon, and afternoon routes that typically last around two hours each. All routes will remain within city limits.

A. GENERAL SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibility is to drive the bus daily while ensuring the safety and supervision of children during transportation. This role is essential in supporting the objectives of the Community Action Partnership Head Start program.

B. SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibilities outlined below are not exhaustive and may include additional tasks as required:

  1. Exhibit support for the agency's mission, goals, and values.
  2. Engage in strategic planning for the Head Start program.
  3. Foster and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and external partners.
  4. Uphold confidentiality regarding staff, clients, and agency information.
  5. Act as a liaison between various departments and external agencies to promote the agency's mission.
  6. Attend required meetings, workshops, and training sessions as directed by the Program Director.
  7. Participate in program-related committees as approved.
  8. Travel as necessary for meetings, conferences, and training.
  9. Pursue ongoing professional development through educational opportunities.
  10. Monitor children and volunteers on the bus, ensuring proper safety restraints are used.
  11. Provide feedback to the Family Partnership Coordinator and Program Assistant regarding transportation policies.
  12. Ensure compliance with all standards set for the Head Start Program.
  13. Transport children safely and maintain an emergency card booklet on the bus.
  14. Engage with children positively, using a calm and friendly demeanor.
  15. Communicate daily with the Family Partnership Coordinator and Program Assistant about transportation matters.
  16. Ensure all children exit the bus safely.
  17. Transport children and families for special events with prior approval.
  18. Maintain a current fixed route schedule for substitute drivers if needed.
  19. Release children only to authorized individuals as indicated on the emergency card.
  20. Report any observed injuries or illnesses to the Family Partnership Coordinator or Program Assistant.
  21. Immediately report safety or maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  22. Conduct three emergency evacuation drills annually in coordination with the Program Assistant.
  23. Ensure the bus is cleaned regularly.
  24. Complete daily pre-inspection checklists and all associated duties.
  25. Document any incidents occurring on the bus.
  26. Verify that all scheduled children are accounted for before departing.

C. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

D. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES):

Required qualifications include:

  1. A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  2. Understanding of appropriate interactions with young children.
  3. Experience working with diverse socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
  4. A valid driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  5. A Class B License with P & S Endorsement.
  6. Ability to establish positive relationships with staff, clients, and community members.
  7. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  8. Current CPR and First Aid Certification within one year.

E. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Constantly requires:

Vision correctable to near 20/20.

Frequently involves:

Sitting, walking, bending, reaching, standing, and other physical activities, including the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

F. WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work may occur in various conditions, both indoor and outdoor, including high-stress situations with moderate noise levels. The position may require non-traditional work hours as assigned.
