Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant I to join our team at Northern Light Health. As a Medical Assistant I, you will play a vital role in providing direct and indirect patient care under the direction of office leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provides routine intake of patients, including taking vital signs and performing point-of-care testing as appropriate.
  • Ensures patients understand their discharge instructions and may be required to transport patients.
  • Answers phone messages, proposes orders per the JPP, and assures providers are made aware of outstanding tasks on their desktops/message center.
  • Communicates and interacts with patients, families, physicians, peers, and other healthcare members to maximize successful customer outcomes and unit function.
  • Orients patients to the hospital environment and routine.
  • Attends and serves on one-unit committee or educational peer opportunity to improve quality and/or engagement.
  • Documents all aspects of patient care in a timely manner.
  • Participates in unit quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provides care in accordance with the patient's plan of care.
  • Labels and delivers specimens per policy.
  • Maintains a safe environment, complying with Northern Light Health policies and procedures, and reports and directly addresses environmental hazards and violations of patient safety policy and/or protocol when involved or observed.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited two-year Medical Assistant program or certified by the NHA or AAMA preferred.
  • For those not certified, national certification must be successfully attained within 6 months of employment and maintained after completion of certificate or degree program to meet compliance to perform in this position.
Working Conditions
  • Potential exposure to abusive and/or aggressive people.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Lifting, moving, and loading 20 to 30 pounds.
