The role of a Patient Access Specialist is to provide seamless, patient-oriented, and timely access to services at St. Peter's Health Medical Group Clinics/Regional Medical Center. This position requires excellent customer service skills, both written and oral, to communicate effectively with patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist patients with registration and demographic information
  • Collect insurance copays and review daily schedules for accuracy
  • Work directly with patients, staff, and providers to obtain necessary information
  • Use electronic healthcare information systems to accurately record patient information
  • Provide patients with instructions and information related to their scheduled appointments
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of insurance benefits, referrals, and authorizations
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage complex and multiple tasks within assigned timeframe

The Patient Access Specialist is responsible for maintaining knowledge of DNV, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, Consent for Treatment, HIPAA, Payors, and departmental/system policies and procedures. They must be able to explain these to patients and their family members or provide a warm handoff to the correct subject matter expert.

This position requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Patient Access Specialist must be able to communicate professionally and courteously with patients and staff, and must be able to work independently with minimal direction.
