Job Summary

The Truck Driver position at Cascade County Public Works Department is responsible for operating various heavy highway trucks and tractor-trailer units to perform daily construction and maintenance of Cascade County roads.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate dump trucks to haul asphalt, dirt, trash, rock, salt, sand, and water, and other designated materials.
  • Lay down gravel, sub-grade rehabilitation, water dirt roads for blade operators, haul material, machinery, and equipment to work sites and other locations.
  • Occasionally provide minor equipment maintenance, such as greasing suspensions, checking hydraulic/brake fluid, oil, water, transmission, and air pressure levels, and cleaning vehicles.
  • Act as a flag person, place traffic cones, and other traffic control devices to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
Requirements
  • Five (5) years of experience in commercial driving operations.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License Class A Type 1 with Manual Transmission, Air Brakes, Trailers, and Tank endorsement issued by the State of Montana; HAZMAT endorsement preferred but not required.
  • Clean driving record is required.
Working Conditions

The Driver will work in all types of construction settings and operations, including gravel lay down, dozers, subgrade rehabilitation, asphalt pavers, chippers, tractor-mowers, trucks, and tractor trailers. The Driver will also work in inclement weather, heavy traffic conditions, and other unfavorable working conditions.

Benefits

The successful applicant will serve a 6-month probationary period and will have a criminal background check conducted. The results thereof may disqualify the applicant from consideration for employment with the County. This position is covered by and subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Cascade County and the Public Employees' Craft Council.
