Job Overview

The Operations Supervisor Trainee works under the guidance of the General Manager and plays a crucial role in supporting the comprehensive management of the transportation facility. This position collaborates with the Terminal Manager to oversee all aspects of the terminal's operations, including maintenance, scheduling, and communication with drivers, educational personnel, and parents regarding daily transportation routes, special trips, and extracurricular activities for students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Terminal Manager in the daily operational management of the facility.
  • Ensure the effective coverage of daily routes, special trips, and charter services.
  • Assist in the training and recruitment of drivers.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources for employee disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain driver credential files to ensure all certifications are up to date.
  • Prepare payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and month-end reports for timely submission.
  • Provide necessary information to School District transportation representatives and ensure a safe, reliable, and punctual service through efficient routing solutions.
  • Understand and implement the terms of School District contracts and facility leases.
  • Attend School Board meetings as directed by the Terminal Manager or other management.
  • Adhere to all company policies and applicable State & Federal regulations.
  • Ensure all drivers and staff receive essential job-related training.
  • Assist in organizing monthly safety meetings for drivers in collaboration with the safety and training team.
  • Contribute to the planning of annual financial requirements for the facility.
  • Help develop charter and school business opportunities during non-school periods.
  • Occasionally, may be required to operate a vehicle.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Terminal Manager or senior management.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: State-required Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
  • Desired: Associate's Degree in Business from an accredited institution; Bachelor's Degree in Business is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years in school bus operations, with at least one year in a leadership capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Capability to organize, lead, and inspire all operational personnel.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in computer usage and relevant software applications.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State regulations.
  • Professional demeanor that positively represents the company.
  • Familiarity with Federal and State OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to assess and discipline drivers while enforcing company policies.
  • Highly motivated with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
