The Bureau of Audit within the Office of the New York City Comptroller is tasked with executing audits and assessments related to the City's financial activities, operations, and programs.
The Bureau is in search of highly skilled and motivated Auditors to take on the role of Lead Auditors for various audit initiatives conducted by the bureau.
Lead Auditors will collaborate with Audit Supervisors and Managers in the planning, organization, and execution of audits involving City agencies, contractors engaged with the City, and private entities or public organizations receiving City funds or operating franchises or concessions on City-owned properties.
Lead Auditors are expected to demonstrate independent judgment and will oversee and direct complex and significant audit assignments.They will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely completion of GAGAS-compliant audit procedures, as well as non-GAGAS reviews, and will assist Audit Supervisors in the daily oversight of assigned audits.
Under the guidance of the Audit Supervisor, the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:- Serves as a team leader to guarantee that all audit/review programs are executed effectively, with tests and procedures properly developed and implemented to meet engagement objectives;
- Collaborates closely with the audit team to identify suitable audit criteria and develop all five elements of findings;
- Coordinates the audit team's efforts and/or acts as the sole assigned auditor to ensure timely and effective audit progression;
- Reviews audit work papers to confirm that all analyses are accurate, well-documented, and pertinent to the audit objectives, findings, and conclusions;
- Assists the Audit Supervisor in preparing regular audit status updates;
- Represents the Audit Supervisor in meetings with the auditee and internal senior management; and,
- Undertakes other related tasks as directed.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, with at least one course in advanced accounting and auditing; or
- A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To qualify for placement in Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
