Tax Audit Division Group Chief

The City of New York is seeking a highly experienced and organized individual to serve as a Group Chief in the Tax Audit and Enforcement Division. This is an excellent promotional opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead a team of auditors and contribute to the city's tax revenue goals.
Responsibilities- Supervise the day-to-day process of screening and selecting tax audit candidates, guiding staff on audit issues and relevant tax laws and regulations.
- Monitor the group's candidate/lead inventory and screening progress, formulating plans to maximize time management efficiency and potential of auditors assigned to the group.
- Review returns selected for audit to verify the accuracy of the issues identified, computations, complexity level, and completeness of comments.
- Use model data to identify potential audit worthiness of rejected candidates/leads.
- Conduct independent research necessary to resolve potential audit issues.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, with at least one course each in auditing, U.S. taxation, advanced accounting, and cost accounting.
- At least 5 years of tax audit experience, including at least 2 years as a CTA 3 or 1 year as a CTA IV.
- Demonstrated ability to research and audit complex tax audit issues.
- Excellent knowledge of Business Corporation Tax, General Corporation tax, Unincorporated Business tax, Commercial Rent tax, and Real Property Transfer tax laws, rules, and audit guidelines.
- Experience handling high volume and multi-function workflow.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including preparing and presenting complex written and verbal materials.
- Strong organizational and performance management skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Strong working knowledge of BTS and MS Office is required.
- At least 5 years of tax audit experience, including at least 2 years as a CTA 3 or 1 year as a CTA IV.
- Demonstrated ability to research and audit complex tax audit issues.

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, either one year of full-time satisfactory experience in Assignment Level I, or two years of full-time satisfactory tax-related auditing or tax accounting experience.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, either two years of full-time satisfactory experience in Assignment Level II, or three years of full-time satisfactory tax-related auditing or tax accounting experience.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV, individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, either one year of full-time satisfactory experience in Assignment Level III, or four years of full-time satisfactory tax-related auditing or tax accounting experience.
