Job Title: Child Life Specialist

Join the esteemed Child Life Team at the #1 Children's Hospital in Virginia and become a vital part of the pediatric healthcare team. As a Child Life Specialist, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to meet the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide developmentally appropriate procedural preparation and support to pediatric patients and their families.
  • Facilitate therapeutic play and education to help children cope with illness and medical treatment.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to create and facilitate programming and special events.
  • Treat children, parents, and team members with dignity and respect.
  • Establish relationships with team members and families that reflect the key elements of family-centered care.
  • Function as an effective team member, working with administration, team members, and volunteers to ensure that appropriate parties are kept informed and individual and collaborative assignments/responsibilities are met.
  • Maintain records and meet training requirements on an annual basis.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life or a related field.
  • Completion of a minimum of 480-hour Child Life internship.
  • Child Life Professional Certification within one year of hire.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification.
Physical Demands:
  • Standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping.
  • Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills.
  • Ability to write legibly.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull 20-50lbs.
