Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at the #1 Children's Hospital in Virginia. As a member of the Child Life Team, you will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to meet the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide developmentally appropriate procedural preparation and support to pediatric patients and their families.
  • Develop and implement therapeutic play programs to facilitate children's mastery of and coping with health care experiences.
  • Assess patient and family learning styles, diagnostic understanding, and needs to provide tailored support.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to create and/or facilitate programming and/or special events.
  • Treat children, parents, and team members with dignity and respect, establishing relationships that reflect the key elements of family-centered care.
  • Function as an effective team member, working with administration, team members, and volunteers to ensure that appropriate parties are kept informed and individual and collaborative assignments/responsibilities are met.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Child Life or Child Development related field required.
  • Completion of minimum of 480 hour Child Life Internship required.
  • Child Life Professional Certification within one year of hire required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.
Working Conditions

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills are necessary, as well as attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 20-50lbs may be required. May be exposed to noise, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
