Position Overview

The Youth Engagement Coordinator at Friends of Youth is dedicated to fostering a secure, welcoming, and nurturing atmosphere for young individuals facing homelessness. This role involves delivering essential services, making referrals, and providing basic necessities while upholding the policies and procedures that contribute to a safe and orderly environment.

Reporting Structure: Reports to the Manager of Drop-In Services

Work Schedule: Saturday through Sunday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Key Responsibilities

Direct Service Responsibilities

  1. Assist young individuals in obtaining food, clothing, hygiene products, and other essential items.
  2. Maintain a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space for all youth utilizing services.
  3. Ensure compliance with the rules, policies, and procedures of Drop-In Services.
  4. Conduct inspections of guests' belongings at check-in to eliminate any prohibited items.
  5. Provide referrals to suitable resources such as case management, education, employment, housing, mental health, and substance use services.
  6. Serve as a positive role model for all youth accessing services.
  7. Oversee the use of laundry and shower facilities.

Program Management Duties

  1. Organize food, furniture, resources, and other supplies necessary for daily operations.
  2. Handle the washing, drying, and folding of bedding, towels, and guests' laundry.
  3. Monitor and assist with the scheduling of programs.
  4. Support the coordination of the Youth Advisory Board.
  5. Conduct area inspections before and after Drop-In Services.
  6. Ensure cleanliness of the facility post Drop-In Services, including tidying up food, washing dishes, and cleaning surfaces.

Administrative Responsibilities

  1. Maintain daily records of guests in Salesforce.
  2. Keep accurate records of items distributed to guests.
  3. Participate in grant reporting coordination.
  4. Document disciplinary actions, bars, and restorative justice measures.
  5. Engage in individual supervision, case consultation meetings, and team meetings.

Qualifications

a. Education and Experience

  1. High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  2. A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience providing direct services to young adults.
  3. Bilingual in English and Spanish is encouraged.
  4. Demonstrated proficiency with MS365 Power Platform.

b. Additional Requirements

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  2. Must successfully pass a criminal history check.
  3. Must successfully pass a tuberculosis (TB) test.
  4. Must have reliable transportation and a valid Washington State driver's license (or be able to obtain one).
  5. Must have a safe driving record if operating a vehicle for Friends of Youth business.
  6. Must carry auto liability insurance that meets Friends of Youth requirements if using personal vehicles for business.
  7. Must complete health certification requirements within 30 days of employment: Food Handler's Card, CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens.
  8. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is mandatory.
