About the Role

Holtec International, a leading provider of innovative solutions for the nuclear and sustainable energy sectors, is seeking an experienced Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineer to join its Applied Mechanics Group. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the design of Holtec's first-of-a-kind small modular reactor (SMR) technology.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document analyses for various structures, systems, and components (SSCs) to support engineering and licensing requirements.
  • Review and develop concept designs into mature designs through critical thinking, literature research, and collaboration with cross-functional teams and vendors.
  • Support the preparation of design deliverables, presentations, and communication of design progress in stakeholder meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering and licensing requirements and documentation for nuclear SSCs.
Typical Analyses
  • Static and dynamic finite element analyses (FEA) using ANSYS.
  • Drop and impact analyses and target response using LS-DYNA.
  • Simulation of seismic response of freestanding structures in air or submerged in water.
  • Static and dynamic analyses of large reinforced concrete or steel-concrete composite structures.
  • Soil-structure interaction (SSI) and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analyses.
  • Beam and plate stress calculations using established principles of strength of materials.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and design codes such as ASME, ASCE, ACI, and AISC.
  • Excellent credentials in principles of solid mechanics.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
Desired Skills
  • Industrial experience in the latest stress analysis codes such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and STAAD.Pro.
  • Prior nuclear industry experience, including interactions with regulatory authorities.
  • Experience in seismic and stress analysis of pressure vessels and rotating equipment.
  • Experience in modular design development of SSCs.
