Job Opportunity

Holtec International, a leading provider of innovative technologies for the nuclear and sustainable energy sectors, is seeking a skilled Structural Engineer/Analyst to join its Applied Mechanics Group.

The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of Holtec's first-of-a-kind small modular reactor (SMR) design, working closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform structural analyses for various structures, systems, and components (SSCs) using industry-standard software and methods.
  • Develop and mature concept designs based on ambiguous requirements, collaborating with team members and vendors.
  • Support the preparation of design deliverables, presentations, and communicate design progress in stakeholder meetings.
  • Contribute to the development of engineering and licensing requirements and documentation for nuclear SSCs.

Typical Analyses:

  • Static and dynamic finite element analyses (FEA) using ANSYS.
  • Drop and impact analyses and target response using LS-DYNA.
  • Simulation of seismic response of freestanding structures in air or submerged in water.
  • Static and dynamic analyses of large reinforced concrete or steel-concrete composite structures.
  • Soil-structure interaction (SSI) and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analyses.
  • Beam and plate stress calculations using established principles of strength of materials.

Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of experience.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and design codes such as ASME, ASCE, ACI, and AISC.
  • Excellent credentials in principles of solid mechanics.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Industrial experience in the latest stress analysis codes such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and STAAD.Pro.
  • Prior nuclear industry experience, including interactions with NRC or other regulatory authorities.
  • Experience in seismic and stress analysis of pressure vessels and rotating equipment.
  • Experience in modular design development of SSCs.
