Structural Engineer/Analyst

Holtec International, a leading provider of innovative technologies for the nuclear and sustainable energy sectors, is seeking a skilled structural engineer/analyst to join its Applied Mechanics Group. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the design of Holtec's first-of-a-kind small modular reactor (SMR) and work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for analyzing various structures, systems, and components, including metallic, reinforced concrete, steel-concrete composite, and soil-subgrade supported structures. This will involve using various methods and software to perform analyses, which will support engineering requirements and lead to the licensing and construction of SMR-300 plants worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute and document analyses for a variety of structures, systems, and components (SSCs)
- Review available concept designs and develop them into mature designs through critical thinking, literature research, and collaboration with other disciplines and vendors
- Support the preparation of design deliverables, presentations, and communicate design progress in stakeholder meetings
- Support the development of engineering and licensing requirements and documentation for nuclear SSCs
Typical Analyses:
- Static and dynamic finite element analyses (FEA) using ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and STAAD.Pro
- Drop and impact analyses and target response development using LS-DYNA
- Simulation of the seismic response of freestanding structures in air or submerged in water
- Static and dynamic analyses of large reinforced concrete or steel-concrete composite structures
- Soil-structure interaction (SSI) and fluid-structure interaction (FSI) analyses
- Beam and plate stress calculations using established principles of strength of materials
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Applicant must possess a BS in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering with a minimum of 4 years of experience
- Familiarity with industry standards and design codes such as ASCE, ACI, ASME, and AISC
- Excellent credentials in principles of solid mechanics
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Desired Skills:
- Industrial experience in the latest stress analysis codes such as ANSYS, LS-DYNA, and STAAD.Pro
- Prior nuclear industry experience, including interactions with NRC or other regulatory authorities
- Experience in seismic and stress analysis of pressure vessels and rotating equipment
- Experience in modular design development of SSCs
