Position Overview:
The Engineering Science Division at Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is looking for a Senior Engineer 1 to become a vital member of our Aircraft Operating Surfaces (AOS) team.

In this role, you will act as a subject matter expert in various domains, including structures, pavements, maintenance, materials, and geotechnical engineering.

Key Responsibilities:
You will employ a range of analytical, scientific, and engineering techniques to conduct research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) as well as manage technical projects that encompass:
  • Applied bench-level research
  • Advanced technology innovation
  • Design, construction, and evaluation of prototype/pilot scale systems in relevant operational environments
  • Testing and assessment of materials, technologies, and processes in Air Force operations
  • Enhancing operations & maintenance (O&M) capabilities through the integration of alternative pavements, materials, technologies, processes, and procedures

To successfully execute these responsibilities, you will need to demonstrate technical expertise in:

  • Experimental and test design
  • Laboratory and field analysis
  • Quality control
  • Scale-up and prototype design and operation
  • System/process evaluation
  • Technology transition
  • Technical documentation
  • Utilization and maintenance of scientific and engineering equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with 8-10 years of relevant experience, or a master's degree with 6-8 years of experience. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
Experience in an engineering research setting focusing on pavement materials, testing, and construction is essential.

Proficiency in pavement analysis and design, testing, material QC/QA, mix design, specifications, and construction processes is required, whether acquired through formal education or practical experience.

Additionally, candidates should have experience in preparing formal reports and presentations, and demonstrate strong analytical and computational skills, along with excellent interpretation, writing, communication, and presentation abilities.
