Job Description

GTRI's Cooperative Education (co-op) program offers students the opportunity to participate in diverse scientific and technological endeavors, use state-of-the-art equipment, and rapidly improve their technical and leadership skills. The program allows students to alternate three semesters of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school.

Job Responsibilities
  • Designing, developing, and documenting designs for use in DOD applications.
  • Mechanical design & analysis.
  • Machining, 3D-Printing, sheet metal bending, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Building assemblies and integrating subsystems.
  • Part finishing processes (conversion coating, anodizing, painting, etc.).
  • Using SolidWorks and other design tools to create parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Developing hands-on engineering skills while helping the team coordinate assembly and testing of large prototype systems.
  • Tolerance Analysis.
  • Logistical Support.
Requirements
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.
  • Must be eligible to be approved by your college/university to participate in a co-op program and register for co-op credit with your university during work terms.
  • Must be able to complete at least three full-time co-op terms (alternating three terms of full-time work at GTRI with semesters of full-time school) prior to graduation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using SolidWorks.
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts.
  • Some hands-on/fabrication experience.
  • Configuration management tools.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas and concepts.
Working Conditions

40 hours per week.

Clearance Requirements

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
