At Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, we are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care to our patients. As an Ophthalmic Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting our ophthalmologists and optometrists in their daily practices.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of ophthalmic testing and the use of ophthalmic instruments and equipment. They will also possess a cursory knowledge of anatomy, pharmacology, medical terminology, sterilization techniques, and basic eye care.

Responsibilities will include performing clerical and clinical duties, such as completing patient work-ups, performing testing of vision and neutralizing of spectacles, and ensuring the fee sheet is properly completed and ready for data entry.

The Ophthalmic Support Specialist will also be responsible for assisting physicians with in-office procedures, as appropriate and in accordance with their training. Additionally, they will perform telephone triage to assess urgent versus emergent needs and create schedules to meet the needs of the patient.

Basic skills in operating a computer and office equipment are critical, as well as the ability to make chart documentation with entry into electronic medical records.
