Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Veterinary Medical Specialist to join our team at one of our Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. As a key member of our hospital team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and leading our team of veterinarians and support staff to deliver high-quality medical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment.
  • Utilize a problem-based approach to develop complete problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatments based on interpretation of diagnostic test results.
  • Document all patient observations, findings, treatments, and diagnoses in a concise and detailed manner.
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory surgeries, and mass removals.
  • Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization and communicate effectively with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of patient care.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License (if applicable) in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date.
  • USDA Category I accreditation or completion within two months of hire date.
  • Must be comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries, including canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, compassion, sympathy, and professionalism in emotionally challenging situations.

Salary: $120,000 - $180,000 per year
