This job description outlines the key responsibilities and expectations for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) role at CHC901 LLC. The EMT will provide emergency medical care to patients in a variety of settings, including emergency medical services (EMS) calls and inter-facility transfers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure knowledge, understanding, and compliance of Community Health Care policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain the vehicle and equipment for use, including cleaning and disinfecting, inspecting, restocking, and completing daily checklists.
  • Perform daily inspections of the base and/or station for cleanliness and maintain a clean and sanitary living quarters.
  • Respond to emergencies and non-emergencies using appropriate care and caution, adhering to Tennessee law, EMS regulations, company policy, and the principles of safe emergency vehicle operation.
  • Rend emergency and non-emergency medical care in accordance with Community Health Care policies, Tennessee law, EMS regulations, and the principles of safe emergency vehicle operation.
  • Work with ALS personnel in a professional manner and maintain good relations between our own ALS services and outside services.
  • Act at all times in the best interests of high-quality patient care, the patient, and in such a manner to reflect credibly on Community Health Care and the professional reputation of the emergency medical technician.
  • Act at all times with personal safety in mind as well as the safety of the partner, patient, other EMS personnel, bystanders, and any other public safety personnel present.
  • Accompany BLS patients to their destination, continuing to provide appropriate care and patient advocacy until the responsibility for the patient has been transferred to an appropriate medical professional and a report has been given.
  • Cosign all patient care forms for completeness.
  • Complete all appropriate documentation and record keeping for every assignment.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions/Body Substance Isolation when dealing with patient contacts and familiarize yourself with and practice the Infection Control policies and procedures of Community Health Care.
  • When necessary and appropriate, act as a team leader in dealing with emergency and non-emergency situations, directing and supervising other members of the emergency medical care team.
  • Perform duties related to public relations and community education programs sponsored by Community Health Care and the local EMS system.
  • Accept responsibility for recertification as an EMT by DPH/OEMS, attend appropriate continuing education courses, and file the appropriate paperwork with DPH/OEMS to ensure timely recertification.
  • Provide Community Health Care with a current copy of their EMT certification, CPR card, and Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
  • Report to assigned shifts in proper uniform and on time unless the proper notification has been made, remain on-duty and in proper uniform until properly relieved, and act as an EMT preceptor when called upon by management to train or retrain fellow employees.
  • Allow and be willing to accommodate third riders for orientation and/or educational purposes, complete all documentation on behalf of student interns, and perform other duties as directed by management.
  • Present an example of professionalism and leadership for others to follow, place patient care excellence above all else, and demonstrate a level of skill and ability consistent with the provision of high-quality patient care.
  • Perform effectively as a team leader in patient care situations, perform effectively in carrying out public relations and community education functions, and deal effectively with members of the medical community and general public in promoting Community Health Care.

Physical Demands/Conditions:

  • The ability to lift and maneuver 200 pounds with assistance without difficulty.
  • The ability to walk up and down stairs without difficulty and the ability to lift and carry 200 pounds up and down two flights of stairs with assistance without difficulty.
  • The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • The ability to walk a distance of one quarter of a mile without difficulty and without affecting the immediate performance of job-related duties.

Education/Training & Experience:

  • EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY TENNESSEE EMT-B LICENSE
  • BLS CPR
  • VALID DRIVERS LICENSE WITH STATE FOR HIRE ENDORSEMENT FOR TENNESSEE DRIVERS LICENSE. ANOTHER STATE DRIVERS LICENSE DOES NOT REQUIRE THE TENNESSEE ENDORSMENT.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Responds to select medical and traumatic emergencies along with responding to select hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes to provide inter-facility transfers.
  • Provides emergency medical care at the scene, en route to the hospital, and during transportation from facility to facility, providing emergency medical care as appropriate to the practice of the registered emergency medical technician.
  • Delivers the patient to the nearest most appropriate medical facility, adhering to Company, local, regional, and state guidelines regarding patient care.
  • Performs EMT-B life support procedures, based upon certification level.
  • Performs other duties related to emergency and non-emergency medical care and development of the emergency medical system and/or Community Health Care.
