The SXEW Laborer plays a vital role in the cathode harvesting process, engaging in various essential tasks such as Forklift Operation, Bar Pulling, Scaler/Bander duties, Loading, and Commercial Utility work, including Nightshift responsibilities. This position requires flexibility to rotate through all critical functions while meeting the physical and mental demands of each role.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Forklift Operator responsibilities include:

  • Conducting pre-operation inspections of the forklift and surrounding work area.
  • Utilizing the forklift to transport calibration blocks to the scale.
  • Retrieving cathode bundles from the hopper and assisting with bar pulling tasks.
  • Moving bundles to the designated area for straightening, to the scale for weight verification, and to the outdoor staging area.
  • Collecting empty racks and transporting them to the designated side.
  • Delivering sample cathodes to the power washing station for cleaning.
  • Assisting material handlers in positioning cathode samples on the press table.

Bar Puller responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Crane operator to lower cathode loads into the hopper.
  • Operating the hopper to ensure the load is straightened.
  • Removing bars from cathode loops and organizing them in racks.
  • Scaler/Bander responsibilities include:
  • Attaching scale tickets to cathode loops, recording weights and harvest amounts.
  • Bundling cathodes by applying metal bands and securing them with a banding machine.
  • Weighing bundles to confirm compliance with weight limits by adjusting the number of cathodes as necessary.

Loader responsibilities include:

  • Performing pre-operation inspections of the forklift.
  • Ensuring proper chocking of the tractor/trailer.
  • Inspecting bundles for cleanliness and tightness of bands.
  • Using the forklift to load cathode bundles onto the truck bed.
  • Maintaining communication with truck drivers regarding bundle placement on the flatbed.
  • Notifying shipping personnel when trucks are ready for weighing, redistributing loads if overweight.

Commercial Utility responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Crane operator in lowering cathodes into cells while ensuring proper spacing of lead bars and bumpers.
  • Replacing missing starter sheets from the rack.
  • Helping the Forklift Operator in placing lead into cells.
  • Assisting the Crane operator in lowering starter sheets into the press.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Capability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic and algebraic concepts.
  • Ability to apply common sense to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and to address problems with multiple variables in standardized situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination.
  • Each employee is responsible for adhering to all required safety procedures and processes.
  • Candidates must possess a current and valid driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT
  • Heavy lifting required.
  • Ability to climb on and off forklifts and commercial cells.
  • Exposure to hot conditions in summer and cold, windy conditions in winter.
  • This position is active, requiring extensive walking, standing, crouching, and reaching.
