Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Treatment Plant Shift Operator-Wastewater to join our team at the Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County. As a key member of our water reclamation facility, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of our wastewater treatment plant, ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and monitor the facility during assigned shifts to meet all NPDES permits, SWPPP, and other applicable requirements.
  • Collect and transport regulatory samples to the MWS Laboratory, including bacteriological, effluent composite, and influent samples.
  • Supervise and lead treatment plant technicians, providing performance evaluations, coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
  • Ensure treatment plant technicians adhere to all applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Collect and analyze process control samples, making proper plant adjustments.
  • Complete required operational documentation, such as operation logs and test results.
  • Communicate operational and other issues to supervisors and managers.
  • Teach and train plant technicians to increase understanding of plant operations and treatment processes.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma and three (3) years of experience in the daily operation of a wastewater treatment plant, including one (1) year of experience leading or supervising in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater plant.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • Tennessee Wastewater Operator's Certification of Competency - Grade IV for treatment plant operations, or equivalent from any state.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and equipment used in treatment plant operations.
