The successful candidate will spearhead the design and implementation of electrical systems across various commercial and K-12 educational projects, ensuring alignment with client specifications and prevailing industry standards. Key Responsibilities:


Design and Development:

  • Direct the design of electrical power, illumination, life safety, and security systems for commercial and K-12 educational facilities.
  • Create comprehensive electrical drawings, schematics, one-line diagrams, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations.

Project Management:

  • Oversee electrical engineering projects from inception to completion.
  • Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to guarantee successful delivery.

Technical Expertise:

  • Provide expert guidance in selecting electrical power and lighting systems, life safety systems, and security components.
  • Conduct thorough site inspections and assessments to verify design feasibility and compliance.
  • Execute load calculations, lighting calculations, short-circuit analysis, arc flash hazard assessments, and other engineering calculations as necessary.
  • Specify lighting controls and luminaire selections, ensuring designs meet current standards and client needs.
  • Specify and size standby power systems and auxiliary systems, including fire alarm systems and access control.
  • Integrate with CCTV and other low-voltage systems design consultants.

Quality Assurance:

  • Review, approve, sign, and seal electrical engineering documents and deliverables.
  • Conduct quality control checks to ensure design accuracy and completeness.
  • Address and resolve technical issues that arise during construction.

Mentorship and Leadership:

  • Mentor and train junior engineers and support staff.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the team.
  • Lead design review meetings and provide constructive feedback.

Client Interaction:

  • Engage with clients to understand project requirements and deliver technical solutions.
  • Prepare and present project proposals, reports, and technical presentations.
  • Ensure client satisfaction through effective communication and project management.

General Direction:
Plans and organizes own work, utilizing a broad range of procedures to achieve assigned objectives.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
Advanced Supervision:
Determines work assignments, priorities, and procedures for subordinates. Responsible for assigning, scheduling, and ensuring the quality and quantity of work. Approves time off and schedule adjustments. Provides training and coaching.


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 15 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with prior K-12 design experience.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex projects.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking, design ability, and technical proficiency.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Michigan required, or the ability to obtain the license via reciprocity.

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in electrical design software and lighting design calculation software.
  • Proficiency in Revit.
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient systems.
  • Knowledge of advanced electrical systems such as smart grids, renewable energy systems, and energy storage solutions.
  • Experience in managing client relationships and business development.
