Position Overview: The Laboratory Support Specialist II plays a crucial role in facilitating laboratory operations, including patient registration, scheduling, and managing requisitions, along with handling billing for reference laboratories. This role involves assisting with the processing of various specimens such as blood, cultures, and urine. Responsibilities also include labeling samples, organizing and preparing batches of specimens, and executing send-out procedures. Additionally, this position entails the collection of blood samples for laboratory analysis in diverse settings, including hospitals and outpatient facilities.
Qualifications:
Educational Background and Experience: A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should possess at least six months of phlebotomy experience or a comparable background. A Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field may be accepted in place of direct patient care experience.
Certifications and Licenses: A valid driver's license from New York State is mandatory. Applicants must be at least 23 years old and authorized to operate Saratoga Hospital vehicles for roles that necessitate travel for offsite specimen collection. Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) from ASCP, NHA, or AMT is required or must be obtained within one year of employment.
It is essential to complete a minimum of six hours of technical continuing education annually.
Compensation: Salary Range: $28.27
Pay Grade: 18
Compensation may vary based on overall experience, qualifications, shift, and location.
