Healthcare Support Specialist
 Location: Montclair, NJ

Innova Solutions is actively seeking a Healthcare Support Specialist to contribute to a multi-specialty medical practice. Candidates should possess or be eligible to obtain Medical Assistant certification within a few months of joining.
Position Type: Contract to Hire
Compensation: $20-$22/hr

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient care, manage patient flow, and perform clerical tasks.
  • Welcome patients and their families, schedule appointments and diagnostic tests efficiently.
  • Handle payment collection, provide account balances, and issue receipts.
  • Accurately post payments to patient accounts and manage daily batch openings and closings.
  • Respond promptly to phone inquiries and address caller needs effectively.
  • Take accurate messages and relay them to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain professional etiquette in all interactions.
  • Facilitate referrals and consult orders in a timely manner.
  • Schedule and input diagnostic tests and procedures into the order management system, adhering to established workflows.
  • Gather, verify, and update patient information, including demographics and insurance details.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are clean post-visit.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and ensure readiness for their visit.
  • Accurately collect lab specimens and label them appropriately.
  • Document vital signs and patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure timely pre-authorizations.
  • Review and reconcile medication lists and document allergies accurately in EHR.
  • Confirm future appointments and manage cancellation lists.
  • Maintain an organized supply inventory and ensure examination rooms are stocked with necessary materials.

GENERAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate understanding of medical emergency procedures.
  • Adhere to all regulatory policies and standards.
  • Perform duties within the scope of practice.
  • Other responsibilities may include EKG and phlebotomy.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to push and pull objects, considering weight and frequency.
  • Physical strength to lift heavy items as necessary.
  • Mobility to move throughout the workplace efficiently.
  • Agility to maneuver the body as required.
  • Dexterity in hands and fingers for various tasks.
  • Maintain balance during climbing, bending, or reaching.
  • Endurance for prolonged standing, walking, and typing.

ENVIRONMENTAL RISKS:

  • Exposure to chemicals and fumes.
  • Potential for loud noises and vibrations.
  • Risk of extreme temperatures and confined spaces.
  • Allergens such as dust and mold.
  • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's or Associate Degree preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification is required; candidates must obtain certification within a specified timeframe if not already certified.
  • Basic Life Support Certification must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in computer use and knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
