Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Community Development to join our team at Kitsap County. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of community development initiatives, policies, and programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive community development plans and strategies to achieve the County's goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction to department staff, ensuring effective planning, coordination, and implementation of community development projects.
  • Collaborate with other County departments, community groups, and stakeholders to build strong relationships and ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Monitor and analyze national and state-wide developments in building, planning, economic, and community development matters, and evaluate their impact on County programs and operations.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, work plans, and reporting to ensure alignment with strategic priorities and evolving workload.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, planning, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 10 years of professional-level experience in public planning, or executive management position performing strategic planning and organizational development, preferably in the public sector.
  • Three years of supervisory and managerial responsibilities.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) certification.
  • Master's degree in public administration, political science, community planning, or environmental planning.
  • Certification as a building official, planner, or professional engineer.
  • ICC (International Code Council) certification.
  • Experience working with the WA State Growth Management Act.

Kitsap County offers a competitive salary range of $147K - $188K, generous leave, highly subsidized health insurance, and participation in the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. We also provide access to the State's Deferred Compensation Program.
