Position Overview:

  • Delivers expert consulting services in structural engineering for a variety of clients, including those in insurance, legal, and industrial sectors.
  • Investigates and identifies the causes and origins of structural failures, building envelope issues, and construction defects, while evaluating the extent and feasibility of repairs.
  • Prepares comprehensive oral and written reports of findings and provides expert testimony when necessary.
  • Oversees multiple projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts thorough investigations and analyses of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to resolve claims and legal disputes.
  • Executes forensic assignments in structural engineering based on a predefined scope of work and budget agreed upon with clients.
  • Field Investigations: Examine and ascertain the causes of construction defects or structural failures, including gathering photographic evidence, documenting site conditions, conducting interviews, overseeing field tests, and reviewing relevant documentation.
  • Creates detailed reports outlining the causes of failures, the extent of damage, necessary repairs, and recommended remediation strategies, while also providing expert opinions in legal matters.
  • Coordinates multiple projects, collaborating with other specialists to ensure timely delivery of client reports.
  • Adheres to established procedures, ensuring safety and due diligence throughout project execution.
  • Fosters and maintains beneficial relationships with clients.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering or higher.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required in the state of employment or the ability to obtain it promptly.
  • 5-10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in Project Management and/or Field Investigation is preferred.
  • Additional licenses or certifications may be necessary depending on location.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Construction experience is advantageous.

  • Skilled in drafting scopes of work, budget estimates, schedules, and technical documentation.
  • Adept at responding to inquiries from clients and presenting information effectively to various audiences.

Work Environment and Requirements:

Physical Demands: The role involves both office work and field activities. Employees must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds. Sharp focus and alertness are crucial during site inspections and client interactions.

Overtime: This position is salaried and exempt from FLSA regulations. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, with potential overtime required to meet project demands.

Travel Requirements: The role may involve up to 50% local/regional travel, with minimal overnight travel as needed.

Compensation: Salary range is $100,000 to $130,000, commensurate with experience and education.
