We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist to join our team at Hackensack Meridian Health. As a key member of our diagnostic imaging department, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.
Responsibilities- Prepare and distribute test data to physicians for interpretation, ensuring timely and accurate results.
- Communicate effectively with physicians regarding report status and maintain a turn-around time of 24 hours.
- Educate patients on diagnostic procedures, using age-appropriate guidelines and good customer service techniques.
- Review medical records and validate physician orders before each procedure.
- Perform M-mode, 2-D echocardiogram, and cardiac Doppler procedures within 24 hours of receipt of the request.
- Conduct stress echo diagnostics and transesophageal echocardiograms as prescribed.
- Facilitate training of echo staff as a preceptor or assist in ensuring staff competency and job-specific performance.
- Prepare preliminary reports for echo studies to improve patient care and reduce response time for results.
- Assist cardiologists in data evaluation and storage, facilitating comparative studies to assess patient status.
- Perform vascular studies, including carotid, venous Doppler, and arterial studies, if cross-trained.
- Provide patient-focused care and incorporate customer service in all related duties.
- Coordinate student intern programs with associated schools for diagnostic training, evaluating students and maintaining records.
- Clean equipment between patients and maintain inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
- Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, including NJDOH, JCAHO, and related professional associations.
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend coverage.
- Communicate with physicians regarding reports, pending studies, and critical results requiring intervention.
- Maintain patient records, patient logs, and submit monthly statistics for the vascular section.
- Schedule patients for diagnostic procedures and instruct outpatients on proper registration procedures.
- Submit charges and credits as needed for completed or canceled procedures.
- Perform PM on equipment and troubleshoot problems, evaluating equipment for upgrade and replacement.
- Comply with infection control and safety procedures.
- Conduct QA/PI for echocardiography studies.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an approved Cardiovascular training program.
- Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCT) or eligible preferred.
- BLS certification.
- One year experience in all phases of echocardiography testing.
- Proficiency in operating telephone, copier, fax machine, computer, and printer.
- Knowledge of echocardiographic ultrasound machine, vascular ultrasound machine, PVR, various computer systems, PACS, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
- Ability to assume on-call duties as needed.
- Strong basic medical knowledge, with emphasis on cardiac ultrasound and cardiology.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and supervise/prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to participate in intra- and inter-departmental activities and perform in a team environment.
