Position Summary:

We are seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist to ensure the health, safety, and environmental compliance of our workforce. This role involves monitoring and assessing health, safety, environmental, and security conditions to guarantee adherence to relevant policies, procedures, and governmental regulations, while also maintaining the GEON Health, Industrial Hygiene, and Safety Programs.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement effective occupational health, safety, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene programs, including health services and related policy manuals.
  2. Gain expertise in GEON and industry best practices to enhance local site programs.
  3. Educate and train line supervisors and production staff on housekeeping practices, safe work procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  4. Coordinate plant health and safety education and training initiatives, leading the plant safety committee.
  5. Manage personal protective equipment, work clothing, and safety equipment programs in line with company standards and budget.
  6. Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor, navigating industrial stairs regularly.
  7. Facilitate and implement programs aimed at identifying, preventing, and controlling occupational injuries and illnesses, including risk assessments and incident investigations.
  8. Administer the plant hazard communication program, ensuring up-to-date safety data sheets (SDS), effective chemical identification, and related training.
  9. Develop and execute audit programs to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  10. Prepare and submit environmental reports and oversee the maintenance of environmental programs and permits.
  11. Maintain accurate records related to environmental, health, medical, and safety standards, ensuring confidentiality.
  12. Keep an accurate OSHA 300 log and accompany inspectors during visits, reporting findings.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science or Technical discipline related to Safety or Environmental Compliance.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the field or an advanced degree with comparable experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Process-oriented with a customer-focused approach.
  • Results-driven attitude with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across various organizational levels.
  • Excellent collaboration and negotiation skills, fostering teamwork.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in computer skills, particularly Excel for report generation.
  • In-depth understanding of US OSHA regulations and experience in conducting risk assessments.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma and/or Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) are advantageous.
  • Experience in Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Strong understanding of EPA regulations and experience in compliance implementation.
