Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab Processing Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in supporting the clinical laboratory team by performing various tasks, including pre-analytic specimen processing, operating laboratory equipment, and entering information into our laboratory computer system.

Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Partnering with team members to foster an inclusive work environment and respect for diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives
  • Performing pre-analytic specimen processing, including accurate patient identification and documentation
  • Operating a variety of laboratory and office equipment, including automated systems
  • Entering information and test orders into the laboratory computer system
  • Responding to phone calls seeking laboratory testing information
  • Ensuring correct patient identification on specimens and resolving pre-analytic specimen-related issues
  • Potentially performing complex reagent preparation
  • Managing work unit supply inventory
  • Providing training to others


Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:
  • An associate degree or high school diploma/equivalent and 2 years of work experience, including clinical laboratory and/or other relevant experience
  • Associate's degree in a health or science field preferred
  • Previous experience or knowledge of computers and keyboarding, telephone operations, and other office equipment desired
  • Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling
  • Organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Good human relations skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Flexibility to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holidays, and weekend work assignments
  • Attention to detail and adherence to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents
