Responsibilities

As a Lab Processing Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our clinical laboratory team. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with team members to create an inclusive work environment and fostering open communication
  • Performing pre-analytic specimen processing and operating laboratory equipment
  • Entering information and test orders into our laboratory computer system
  • Responding to phone calls and providing laboratory testing information
  • Ensuring accurate patient identification on specimens
  • Documenting and resolving pre-analytic specimen-related issues
  • Potentially preparing complex reagents
  • Managing work unit supply inventory and operating automated systems
  • Providing training to colleagues

Please note that individuals hired to this position will be required to complete two years in this role before becoming eligible to apply for other positions within Mayo Clinic.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An associate degree or high school diploma/equivalent and two years of work experience, including clinical laboratory and/or relevant experience
  • Previous experience or knowledge of computers, keyboarding, telephone operations, and office equipment
  • Ability to accurately read specimen labels and work with numbers to prevent mislabeling
  • Organizational skills, prioritization, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent human relations skills and effective communication
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Flexibility to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holidays, and weekend work assignments
  • Attention to detail and adherence to strict safety requirements for handling chemicals, reagents, and infectious agents

  • Non-DLMP internal applicants with less than one year in their current department/position must attach early release approval from their supervisor
Exemption Status

This position is non-exempt.

Compensation Detail

The hourly rate for this position is $25.29. Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
